Welcome to Travel Off The Cuff!

Travel Off The Cuff is a social news site and blog focused on travel.

You may be asking what a social news site is. A social news site is where the users contribute the news to the story and help determine which stories make it to the front page by upgrading stories they like or feel are worth reading. Keep reading to see how it works.

There’s also a blog component to the site. I’ve traveled to Europe a couple of times and been all over the US. I’ll be posting about my experiences. Hopefully from them, you can learn some great things to do when you travel. I’ll also be having other people write about their own experiences as well. If you’ve never traveled to London, being knowledgeable about what to expect is immensely valuable to having a great trip.

Travel Off The Cuff is about having a great trip without the need to plan every minute of your day.

Does that mean logging off your computer right now and flying out to London? It could, but probably not. Obviously there has to be a certain level of planning. Transportation needs to be arrange, hotels needs to be booked, private tour guides need to be scheduled. Okay, perhaps not that last one.

Travel Off The Cuff is about what you do when you get there.

Did you know that the Louvre has over 35,000 pieces of art on display? If you took 30 seconds to view each piece non-stop, it would take you over 12 days.

Chances are, however, that you’ll go in, see some of the popular exhibits, perhaps roam through a couple of collections on your way to see the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci (It’s smaller then you think, but much better displayed now then it used to be).

Maybe when you arrive, you see that line outside the glass pyramid and just groan to yourself. Guess what, there is a less known entrance across the street. I’ll be blogging about that soon.

Great travel equals great discussions and we want you to feel free to comment and discuss any article link or blog posted on the site.

Travel allows you to meet and become immersed in diverse and exciting cultures. Explore where your family originated from, even if you don’t know anyone there. Our cultures are rooted in our history and what a better way to understand your family tree then to dig through those roots.

It is a wonderful world to explore.

Let’s get started…

Submitting News

In the header, you’ll see a Submit News link. You’ll need to be logged in to use it. On the submit page, you can enter the URL for the news site (a direct link works best), the title of the post (either copy it from the site or create your own) and a brief description. Click submit and the article will be added to the On Standby list. Once enough people have “Upgraded” the article, it’ll be promoted to the front page!

Upgrading News Stories

If you submitted the news story, you automatically upgraded it. If you view another news story and like it, you can click on “Upgrade” in the Upgrades box to the left of the story. Once you upgrade a story, you’re stuck with it.

Commenting on Articles or News Stories

Want to comment on a news story, click either the “Read more…” or “Comments” links associated with each story. You’ll be taken to the story page where you can add/reply to comments. Of course, you’ll need to be logged in.

Rating Comments

For each comment, you’ll see +/- links to the right of the header. These allow you to rate the comment. Good comments get a plus, bad comments get a minus.

Comments or Suggestions?

Leave a comment below on any suggestions you have for us. The site is still technically in “beta,” so we’ll be adding features as we go along and we want your opinions.

Thanks for visiting!
