The really cool thing about watching other people’s videos on the web is that the better they are, the more you want to try out the effect. I’ve toyed around with Tilt-Shift photography and am currently playing around with time-lapse video. There are a couple of different ways to do time-lapse.
The first way is to have a digital camera shoot photos at regular intervals. Then you collect these together into a video. I’ll share this effect with you later on.
The second way is to take a video sequence, then speed up the video. That is what I did above. Andy Johnson is my subject in the video. He had one one, walk to a designated point, stop and stand as still as possible for ten minutes, then walk off, past the camera.
This shot was setup in front of the German pavilion at Epcot in Walt Disney World. I sat the camera on a tripod as low to the ground as I could go and put both my backpack and Andy’s on each side of the camera. I wanted to essentially “hide” the camera as best as possible so people would walk by it and not be distracted by it. Usually, when your shooting either photos or videos, people try to duck out from your shot. In this, I needed people in the shot.
You can see about halfway through a guy in brown stands for a moment in front of the camera and realizes what’s going on before he quickly moves out the way. That’s cool with me, it makes it more real.
Watch the video once or twice and you’ll also be able to see the clock in the back move a bit quicker then normal.
Once you’re done here, go check out Andy’s Epcot blog at Discover Epcot.
