As France’s Les Bleus crashed out of the World Cup, a disgruntled president Nicolas Sarkozy abruptly canceled the annual Bastille Day bash on July 14 at the Elysée Palace (austerity measures were cited). No problem. Parisians eager to enjoy their national holiday can hop on a Eurostar train and head to London, where, three days early, the largest Bastille day celebration outside of France will take place in Battersea Park.
